The crystal and molecular structures of two bisphenol S derivatives were investigated. The new allyl-substituted derivative imparts good coloration sensitivity to thermal paper. Only minor differences in the molecular structures of the two derivatives were found. Significant differences emerged in the hydrogen bonding pattern of the two derivatives. A correlation between crystal structure and coloration sensitivity was suggested.
