The work establishes a combined molecular and cellular toxicity evaluation method.

SDS increased CAT activity through stimulating CAT production in the hepatocytes.

Binding interactions of SDS with CAT were systematically investigated.

The binding was majorly driven by electrostatic forces with 13.2 ± 1.24 binding sites.

SDS preferentially binds to the interface of CAT rather than its active site.
