•: The hybrid metal/nanoparticle/dielectric (M/NP/D) structure features forward scattering and anti-reflection effects.
•: The visible transmittance is optically enhanced to 32% for st-OSCs with the hybrid M/NP/D structure.
•: The recovery of efficiency of st-OSCs is as high as 68% and 87% for top- and bottom-illumination cases.
•: The angular dependence of device performance is alleviated by the proposed M/NP/D structure.
