Benefits UV radiation: treatment of various diseases, vitamin D synthesis in the skin.

Data from UV erythemal irradiance to estimate the production of vitamin D.

Minimum exposure time to obtain the recommended vitamin D daily dose of 1000 IU.

Time to induce erythema around solar noon less than time obtained for vitamin D.

Results show difficult to obtain the recommended vitamin D doses in winter.
