Crystal structure of a myotoxic basic phospholipase A2 from snake venom was solved. Its conformation is similar with the assembly of phospholipase A2-like myotoxins. Putative protein membrane docking and disrupting sites are proposed. A “myotoxic cluster” formed by residues of both monomers was identified. The findings are compatible with phylogenic studies previously proposed.
