A PBI derivative that combines a PBI unit and two cholesteryl (Chol) residues at the bay positions was designed and synthesized. A fluorescent film based on the fluorophore as developed was fabricated. The film-based fluorescent sensor displaying sensitive, selective, fast and reversible sensing to aniline vapor was developed, and moreover the sensor device as developed exhibits successful detection of simulated lung cancer breath.
