Keyhole thermal behavior in GTAW welding process

The influence of the welding current and welding speed to the keyhole exit behavior in GTAW welding process is visualized by a vision system. A contrast between the GTAW keyhole and the PAW keyhole is drawn. GTAW welding has larger current range to produce stable keyhole welding process because the free-burning arc has much smaller ratio of arc pressure to current than in PAW process. Keyhole exit diameter grows at a comparable speed with the keyhole deviation distance in GTAW because the free-burning arc efficient diameter is more sensitive to the welding current than in PAW.
