•: The mean Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores of cohorts were significantly lower than those of the control group at 30 and 45 min postoperatively.
•: More patients in the cohorts reported mild pain than in the control group.
•: There were significantly fewer cases of nausea and vomiting with TEAS.
•: TEAS after surgical abortion benefits the relief of postoperative pain.
•: TEAS before the surgery contributed to more women experiencing low pain levels.
