Porous Si3N4 ceramics were fabricated through gelcasting of oil-in-water suspensions. The emulsion inhibited the pores from the reaction of Ca2+ ions and sodium alginate. Si3N4 ceramics had spherical-shaped pores both with and without adding emulsion. Porous Si3N4 ceramics with uniform spherical-shaped macropores were obtained.
