Chromolaena odorata is an invasive weed and exists as two biotypes (SAB and AWAB). AWAB is used in traditional medicine but not SAB. Leaf extracts of both yielded antimicrobial activity, with similar phytochemical properties. SAB plants had low cytotoxicity and lacked mutagenic effects. SAB plants have similar medicinal potential as AWAB against microbial infections.
