Although a poor nation, Rwanda has achieved most of its health MDGs. Local health centres, health insurance and Community Health Workers are responsible. The volunteer Community Health Worker scheme is devolved and probably sustainable. Rwanda’s ambitious programmed has led to aid dependency even for consumables. If success leads to a reduction in aid the achievements could be lost.
