An investigation into the development of the kakortokite macrorhythmic layering In situ crystallisation at the base of a non-convecting magma chamber is indicated. Processes of suspension and settling are minor contributors to the layering. Crystallisation of the units is triggered by replenishment events. Nucleation order is controlled by oscillating concentrations of halogens.
