Energy efficiency measures are needed to achieve 80% reduction. Nuclear appears as an important option to achieve deep cuts in CO2 by 2050. Technology improvement can enable using heavy fuel oil with CCS until 2050. IGCC requires lower net CO2 footprint in order to be competitive. Nuclear power causes a sharp increase in the CO2 avoidance costs.
