Sedimentology and alluvial architecture of the Bajo Barreal Formation (Upper Cretaceous) in the Golfo San Jorge Basin: Outcrop analogues of the richest oil-bearing fluvial succession in Argentina
A 450–650 m thick fluvial succession was analysed along a 4.5 km wide exposure.
•
A high-accommodation fluvial setting with multiple channel belts was identified.
•
A plural, equi-style fluvial system is interpreted.
•
Fluvial channels are narrow sheets of low sinuosity or braided that relocated by avulsion.
•
The temporo-spatial variability in the geometry of ∼300 fluvial channels is quantified.
