Effects of ultrasonic melt treatment and solution treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of low-density multicomponent Al70Mg10Si10Cu5Zn5 alloy

Low-density Al70Mg10Si10Cu5Zn5 was successfully fabricated at atmospheric pressure. The alloy consisted of an fcc solid-solution and various intermetallic compounds. Ultrasonication reduced porosity and Mg2Si size, improving strength and ductility. Zn and Cu clusters formed after solution treatment improved the strength at 25 °C. The alloy exhibited excellent strength at temperatures below 200 °C.
