We demonstrate clear evidence that free-ranging maturing fish experience a thermal regime that is considered to be one of the exogenous factors triggering final oocyte maturation. We investigated the vertical habitat use of maturing female Verasper moseri under natural conditions, determined by depth-temperature data loggers. Our electronic tagging analysis will progress the understanding of behavioural strategies used by wild populations to select thermal habitat in relation to their reproductive development.
