•: Mechano-chemical (MC) treatment of the CaCO₃ and Co₃O₄ powders mixture.
•: A maximum ball-impact energy of 283 mJ/hit too low for synthesis of Ca₃Co₄O₉ phase.
•: MC treatment resulted in amorphous powder mixture with increased reactivity.
•: Single-phase Ca₃Co₄O₉ was obtained after 3-times shorter calcination time at 760 °C.
•: Ca349 ceramics with two-times higher ZT of 0.1 at 600 °C was obtained.
