Mechano-chemical (MC) treatment of the CaCO3 and Co3O4 powders mixture.

A maximum ball-impact energy of 283 mJ/hit too low for synthesis of Ca3Co4O9 phase.
•
MC treatment resulted in amorphous powder mixture with increased reactivity.
•
Single-phase Ca3Co4O9 was obtained after 3-times shorter calcination time at 760 °C.
•
Ca349 ceramics with two-times higher ZT of 0.1 at 600 °C was obtained.
