Mexico has 171 recorded species of anchialine fauna, of which 37% are stygobites. Crustaceans make up 60% of the species richness, not 95% as previously reported. Five Mexican anchialine caves have more than 10 species, El Aerolito system has 100. Only in El Aerolito, Arthropoda is not the richest taxon in Mexican anchialine caves. Mexican anchialine caves have 12 species listed as on extinction risk.
