Growth of surface initiated rolling contact fatigue cracks is studied experimentally. Propagation phase dominated the life to pitting, while initiation is relatively short. Two stages of crack propagation identified. Contact fatigue crack propagation shown to follow similar trends as those in classical fatigue. Results show that growth of stage 2 cracks can be described by Paris type power law.
