Seagrass may become nutrient limited in oligotrophic environments. Nitrogen (N) were added experimentally to seagrass at three sites that use very different sources. Significant N-limitation of seagrass growth was detected at only a single site. The N-limited site was highly dependent on catchment inputs and isolated from other regional sources of N. Reduced rainfall under climate change may lead to further N-limitation in this system.
