•: Sulfate-reducing bacteria are involved in the initiation and maintenance of inflammatory bowel disease.
•: Salicylamide derivatives had MIC values in the range 0.22–0.35 μM against Desulfovibrio piger Vib-7.
•: Salicylamide derivatives had MIC values in the range 0.27–8.52 μM against Desulfomicrobium sp. Rod-9.
