Petrological constraints on evolution of continental lithospheric mantle beneath the northwestern Ethiopian plateau: Insight from mantle xenoliths from the Gundeweyn area, East Gojam, Ethiopia
Partial melting and metasomatism are the major processes affecting CLM of Ethiopian plateau.
•
Gundeweyn mantle xenoliths record high mantle heat flow between 60 and 150 mW/m2.
•
A high geotherm shows presence of active mantle upwelling under Ethiopia plateau.
•
Plateau lithosphere is product of interaction between melt with depleted lithosphere.
•
The interaction is probably related to mantle upwelling focused beneath EARS.
