We have studied Drosophila nucleosome remodeling deacetylase (NuRD) assembly.

NuRD consists of a core deacetylase complex, where MTA-like acts as the scaffold.

This transiently associates with a chromatin remodeling sub-module including CHD4.

Single-molecule imaging shows that the two sub-modules associate through MBD-like.

NuRD comprises catalytically active sub-modules in both the cytosol and the nucleus.
