Effect of season and trophic level on fatty acid composition and content of four commercial fish species from Krasnoyarsk Reservoir (Siberia, Russia)

We studied four fish of various trophic position from a mesotrophic reservoir. Effect of trophic position and season on individual fatty acid content was tested. Fatty acid composition of perch and roach changed seasonally as temperature affected. Stable isotopes and fatty acids clearly discriminate piscivorous and omnivorous fish. Essential docosahexaenoic acid content was higher in piscivorous perch and pike.
