On habitat characteristics driving meadow passerine densities in lowland hay-meadow systems in France

Habitat characteristics driving meadow passerine density are species-specific. The most influential were: habitat size, mowing after June 20, floristic richness. We suggest promoting innovative farming models in large hay meadow units. To attract high bird density, mowing should be later than June 20. But hay harvesting should be after July 1 in patches for allowing bird reproduction.
