We present an IL27-centered, comparative signaling study in liver cells. IL27, although member of the IL6/IL12 superfamily, acts at first glance like IFNγ. However, a STAT3-dominated response can occur, when STAT1 expression is low. Signaling of IL27, but not of IFNs, is subject to cross-inhibition by IL6 signaling. Signaling of IL27, but not of IFNs, can be inhibited by SOCS3.
