The pro-apoptotic ARF and BIM genes are specifically activated by deregulated E2F. Growth stimulation did not suppress E2F1 activation of the ARF or BIM genes. Constitutively active Akt/PKB did not suppress E2F1 activation of the ARF or BIM genes. The PI3K pathway does not suppress E2F regulation of the ARF and BIM genes.
