Flower-like WO3·H2O was conveniently synthesized by a low-temperature oil bath route.

The as-prepared WO3·H2O has excellent catalytic oxidative desulfurization activity for DBT.

The as-prepared catalyst is stable during the reaction and retain its high activity after recycled.

A simultaneous adsorption-oxidation-extraction mechanism was proposed based on experiments and DFT calculations.
