Investigated the applicability of ANFIS in predicting the behavior of a point absorbing type wave energy converter under regular and random waves.
•
The water surface elevation and the instantaneous container position of a non-buoyant body type wave energy converter with reference to the mean water level was recorded during both regular and random wave passes.
•
Recorded data were used to train an ANFIS algorithm to model the device and the model is used as replacement to real physical experimental setup.
•
The model was tested with various random waves and container displacement in time series was predicted.
•
It is concluded that the ANFIS model could be an effective tool to model a point absorbing wave energy converter.
