New insight into how metallic cores formed in Earth and terrestrial planets. Deformation allows metallic cores to efficiently separate without magmas oceans. Core formation in rocky planets is a complex, multi-stage, prolonged process. Geochemical models based on core-mantle chemical equilibrium probably incorrect.
