CFD was utilized to calculate erosion rate for aluminum and carbon steel chokes. Random impingement is the dominating mechanism in the constriction section. Eroding mechanism in outlet pipe in downstream of the expansion has been explained. Mansouri et al. erosion eq. with standard k-ε model could predict erosion suitably. Modifying the choke geometry resulted in much lower erosion rates.
