Nano-size effect induced high response of ZnO nanowires to trace-level H2S is studied and validated. Tree-branched ZnO nanowires with 20 nm diameter are in situ grown above the sensing-area of the microsensor. Based on the nano-size effect, the 20 nm ZnO-NWs sensor exhibits resoluble detection to 5 ppb H2S.
