Slow pyrolysis is an interesting conversion alternative for biomass in steelmaking. Injecting char from slow pyrolysis becomes feasible if CO2 penalties increases. The use of torrefied biomass in steelmaking does not seem promising. The utilization of the arising bio-oil needs further studies.
