We found high Al fluxes in a tropical montane forest in Ecuador. Al occurs predominantly in organic complexed (nontoxic) forms. Shallow rooting depth of trees might be an adaption to high Al in deeper mineral soil. Toxicity indicators in soils and plants hardly point at Al toxicity for local plants.
