DC micro-arc oxidation of 6061 Al alloy done using Na2SiO3 electrolyte. Anomalous thickening with increasing amount of ammonia water in the electrolyte. Amorphous phase appears in coatings as added ammonia water ≥ 20 mL/L. Mechanism of abnormal thickening due to oxygen bubbles captured by glassy phase. Corrosion current density down to ∼10−10 A cm−2 as 60 mL/L ammonia water added.
