GC-MS analysis revealed altered levels of 31 metabolites in RCC tumors. Top changed metabolites included succinate, purines, myo-inositol, urea, and beta-alanine. qPCR arrays detected disturbed expression of 53 metabolic genes. Impaired expression of metabolic genes correlates with poor survival of RCC patients. First report of link between poor survival and myo-inositol/beta-alanine metabolism.
