Vitamin B6 cofactor pyridoxal 5′-phosphate (PLP) was applied for the optical chemosensing of metal ions. PLP detects Fe3 + and Al3 + at micromolar level in aqueous medium. PLP crowned gold nanoparticles was developed for metal ions sensing. PLP-AuNPs detects Al3 +, Cd2 + and Pb2 + due to the complexation-induced aggregation of nanoparticles.
