Role of magnesium oxide and strontium oxide as modifiers in silicate-based bioactive glasses: Effects on thermal behaviour, mechanical properties and in-vitro bioactivity

文摘
The composition of a CaO-rich, K2O-containing silicate bioglass was modified: A fixed 10 mol% of CaO was replaced with MgO or SrO or fifty-fifty MgO-SrO. The sintered glasses showed a strong volume shrinkage with low residual porosity. The samples showed good mechanical performance and apatite-forming ability in vitro. The presence of such oxides, especially MgO, improves the samples' bioactivity.
