Worldwide Pb reduction has reduced brake pads’ ability to produce GSR-like particles. A sample of brake pads was assessed for GSR-like particles using XRF and SEM-EDS. Particles classified as consistent could be excluded based on manual review. No particles with compositional and morphological similarity to GSR were observed. After review, false-positive GSR attribution of brake-pad particles is improbable.
