•: Trifluridine, a fluoropyrimidine, had previously had its clinical development halted due to its rapid degradation by thymidine phosphorylase.
•: Combining trifluridine with tipiracil, a thymidine phosphorylase inhibitor, circumvented this issue and enabled further research.
