A fully formulated stable engine oil containing MoS₂ nanoparticles was demonstrated.

The fuel consumption and emission abatement performances of a nano-lubricant based on MoS₂ nanoparticles on engine test bench and on vehicle were assessed.

Fuel consumption measurement demonstrated a fuel saving reaching even 5–10% at engine level in some specific operative conditions. A fuel economy benefit of 1% was measured on vehicle.

The inclusion of MoS2 nanoparticles in the base oil resulted to be fully compatible with the after treatment system of current passenger vehicles.
