The present study examined the effect of oral consumption of pomegranate fruit extract (PFE) on the disease progression in rabbits with surgically induced osteoarthritis. Significant inhibition in histologic scores, matrix metalloproteinase-13, and prostaglandin E2 are reported. PFE-derived compounds may have potential value in the management of osteoarthritis.
