γ- and β-barium borate nanorods were prepared by hydrothermal method. NLO properties were studied by Z-scan technique (800 nm, 150 fs, 80 MHz). γ-BBO nanorods showed superior NLO behaviour than other phases and structures of BBO. The observed limiting action was due to two photon absorption process.
