A case-study on fresh unpacked fishery products with the respective labels to verify if the EU compulsory information are correctly provided at the retail sale has been carried out. A total of 480 seafood labels taken at the fish shops of 8 big supermarkets linked to international and national supply chains have been considered. To assess the conformity of the fishery products with the trade name reported in the labels, a preliminary visual inspection of the samples by morphological analysis was performed. 18% of the samples were not in compliance with the EU rules on the labelling of fishery and aquaculture products. The results of this work reveal difficulties of implementation of Reg. (EU) n.1379/2013 in large-scale retail stores in Italy.
