Yeast Ptr2 and mouse PepT1 are POT family di/tripeptide transporters. Ptr2 is necessary for cellular uptake of the peptidyl antibiotic, blasticidin S. Mouse PepT1 could mediate the uptake of blasticidin S in yeast. Bacterial POT family proteins potentiate E. coli's sensitivity to blasticidin S. Uptake of blasticidin S by POT family transporters is evolutionarily conserved.
