Lonicera japonica is a serious environmental weed in New Zealand (NZ). Field surveys in Japan have identified potential biocontrol agents of L. japonica. A nymphalid butterfly has been released and established in NZ. A cerambycid beetle has been approved for release in NZ. Other candidate agents could potentially be developed, if required.
