Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) was induced using TNBS in rats. In vivo effect of BIF 231 was correlated with in vitro adhesion and immunomodulatory properties of BIF 231. Significant alterations were recorded in colon morphology, histology, biochemical and cytokine profiles. BIF 231 exhibited good adhesion capacity for IEC-6 cell lines. BIF 231 showed anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activity in ulcerative colitis in rats.
