Maternal diet programs offspring hypothalamic transcriptional responses to stressors. A robust response to stressors is absent in offspring from dams fed an altered diet. Adverse maternal diet leads to reduced basal corticosterone in offspring. Adverse maternal diet leads to slower recovery of the HPA axis following restraint.
