Ribavirin treatment significantly reduces mortality of NNV- infected zebrafish larvae. Treatment of NNV infected zebrafish larvae with ribavirin resulted in four mutations in the viral RdRp gene. Ribavirin reduced the expression levels of IFNγ, IFN-I, Mx and TNF-α genes, while the gene expression of IL-1β increased. Ribavirin treatment should be considered as an efficient means to reduce the threat of NNV.
