Cell treatment with PTX results in destabilization of Gαi but not Gαq. PTX fails to destabilize a mutant Gαi2 that does not undergo ADP-ribosylation. Gαi is stabilized by a specific effect of endogenous and exogenous Ric-8A. Ric-8A neither interacts with nor efficiently stabilizes ADP-ribosylated Gαi.
